What is Hawaii Club Lūʻau
This year will mark UNC's 31st Annual Lū‘au. As you know, through our annual Lūʻau, we exhibit traditional Hawaiian food, dance, and of course, the aloha spirit that is so evident in our community. The Lū‘au provides the Hawaii Club with the opportunity to share our love and appreciation with the rest of the community and by doing so we hope to break the stereotypes placed on Hawaii.
We are excited to announce our theme for this year’s Lū‘au: ‘Onipa‘a. ‘Onipa‘a means steadfast, and we chose this theme to honor our ancestors and those who take care of the islands today.
This past year we have witnessed both the hardship and resiliency of the islands. Through our steadfast determination to care for our home, we have admired the determination of the past and present and felt this theme properly reflects our admiration of those who continue to care for the islands.
What does your gift mean?
The continuous support you have given to Lū‘au is the reason we are able to host events and spread messages like this one. This year, we are looking to raise $7,500 to help us cover the costs of the Lū‘au. Your gift will support everything from entertainment, food, decorations, and other miscellaneous supplies. With your support the club can plan a Lū‘au that is close to being true and authentic to what we celebrate back home with music, live entertainment and the delicious foods.

"Lū’au is an event that shows Hawaiian culture through delicious food that is prepared with lots of love, and entertainment, such as the music and dancing. With the outcome of seeing how the UNCo community, along with my friends enjoying the event pays off for all the hard work Hawaii Club put into planning. The great times and memories I have made with my friends is one that I will never forget. Just letting loose, singing and dancing to the songs is always my favorite."

"Lūʻau is the joy of bringing the community together and expressing our gratitude for the history, customs, and values of Hawai‘i. A place where we’re able to build bonds and create memories with one another. Being that we are so far away from home, we have the chance to bring a piece of it, to Colorado. I get share a piece of my identity, that allows others an opportunity to experience a few of many reasons why I take so much pride in the place I come from."
