What is Black Is Punk?

Black Is Punk is a student collaborative art movement supporting the longevity of Black freedom in creative spaces. It is an annual showcase exhibiting the creative diaspora of Black students, breaking down stereotypes and building a community celebrating creativity, talent, and individuality amongst Black students at UNC. Making up only 4% of the student population at UNC, Black students need events that celebrate the meaning of being Black.

The Black is Punk exhibit opens on August 25, 2022, with an opening night celebration catered by the Marcus Garvey Cultural Center (MGCC) from 4:30-6:30pm. This show will take place in the lower level of Michener Library.

Where will my donation go?

Donations to the Black Is Punk campaign will be placed in the Marcus Garvey Cultural Center (MGCC) program fund, which provides resources, support, and programs for UNC's Black, African and African American diasporic students, staff, and faculty.

The funds raised from your donations will go towards supporting future Black Is Punk projects involving exhibitions and community and intellectual programming. Black Is Punk donations will be partly used to provide funds to the people who make these collaborative events possible.

Thank you!

Your donation is much appreciated and will make an immediate impact on UNC's Black community.
